CLEAR

In 2019, CARA initiated the CLEAR (Canadian LEadership on Antimicrobial Real-life Usage) Registry, a national antimicrobial usage registry that captures the clinical usage of new antimicrobials, allowing clinicians to share their data about why, when and how they use these agents to treat patients with infectious diseases with their peers across Canada.

Pneumococcal Vaccines

From 2011-2021, CARA, the University of Manitoba, and the National Microbiology Laboratory-Public Health Agency of Canada partnered to assess changes in antimicrobial resistance patterns of S. pneumoniae serotypes annually, as part of the SAVE (Streptococcus pneumoniae Serotyping and Antimicrobial Susceptibility: Assessment for Vaccine Efficacy in Canada After the Introduction of PCV-13) study.

New S. pneumoniae vaccines continue to be developed to address the evolving epidemiology of S. pneumoniae serotypes and antimicrobial resistance concerns worldwide. CARA is actively evaluating the coverage provided by these vaccines for the Canadian population.
